Alkippe had journeyed to New Bark Town. Her parents had seen her off. The girl was excited to finally be able to start being a Trainer. She had spent years watching other trainers and their Pokemon come through her hometown. Finally, she made it to New Bark Town. Looking around she realized how small it was. Finally, she saw the Pokemon Lab and walked inside.
"Hello?" She called out. The place looked empty, but there were places she could not see so there might be someone there.
Alkippe moved away from the door so she wouldn't block it if someone else wanted to come in. The girl waited silently for and response that would suggest someone was in the lab. Alkippe was excited. She was so close to getting her starter Pokemon! What would it be? She wondered. The starters for this part of the region was Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totadile, but other Pokemon were allowed too if a Trainer was polite enough, at least that's what she had heard from a passing Trainer.

In the small corner of the lab Professor Elm sat in a chair with a book in his hands. To anyone watching it would appear that he was rather focused and intensely reading said book like it were his life. In his mind though, not a single word on the page was read. He would turn each and every slice of paper over and over again but he didn't read the words that were printed there. His eyes didn't even glance over the glorious illustrations that had been made to enhance the book. The truth was that the Professor had read that book a thousand times already. He knew every page word for word and the meaning of every single sentence. He could properly recite everything to you, even the captions. In fact, if someone asked him, he could probably recreate the entire book even down to the detailed pictures.
Elm was going through it one last time in case he could find something he had missed earlier, but he doubted that his search would work. Shifting his legs he glanced up to see someone standing in the lab. He had been so engrossed in reviewing the book in his mind that he hadn't heard them come in! Quickly standing he dropped the book and walked toward the young girl. "Hello there, how may I help you today?" He smiled sweetly and knew pretty much what the girl wanted. A brand new Pokemon to train and travel with. That's all they ever wanted and that was perfectly fine in the Professor's eyes. Pokemon were wonderful things and everyone deserved one.

Alkippe smiled back, a bit shyly. "I'm here to pick up my Pokemon, Professor. I come from Cherrygrove City." Alkippe definitely was excited. She hadn't minded that the professor hadn't noticed her walking in. She was continent in trying to think of what Pokemon she wanted to start with. The girl would love whatever she chose no matter what. Brushing back a lock of her hair the girl's eyes shimmered with excitement and nervousness.
What if the Pokemon she chose didn't like her? Alkippe was kind of afraid of that. The girl had been learning what she could from passing trainers and didn't want to miss the chance of experiencing the adventures for herself. The trainers she had all seen had great bonds with their Pokemon so there should be some that liked her right? She waited for the Professor to tell her what kinds of Pokemon he was giving out. Of course there were advantages and disadvantages of the different kinds she could get.

The girl, as he assumed, was there to pick up her very first starter. Nothing was out of the ordinary for that occasion. The Professor smiled at her and glanced over at the table that held the Pokeballs that the future trainer would chose from. He spotted the starter kit and smiled. Thankfully one of his assistants was keeping him organized. Normally if someone came in for a Pokemon he would sprint all over for the ball and then make circles trying to find a starter kit. He was glad he decided to tell someone to make sure that the Pokemon were always on the table unless being played with and there were always starter kits near by. It improved his job so much.
With long strides Elm walked over to the table and motioned for the girl to follow. "Here are the three starters so chose away!" He smiled again before leaning down and picking up the starter kit. Super easy, super simple. He glanced inside and made sure everything was there before setting the pack on the table. One time he handed a trainer the pack and it was missing so many things! He was careful to make sure that never happened again. Professor Elm waited patiently for the girl to share her future starter with him.

At first Alkippe was going to ask for a different Pokemon, but on second thought, the Chikorita seemed like the way to go. But then. So did the Cyndaquil. With a deep breath Alkippe closed her eyes and just picked a Pokeball. Opening her eyes she said, "I choose Cyndaquil." Something about that particular Pokemon called to her more than the others.
She was excited and couldn't wait to start her new adventures with her new friend. She looked up at Professor Elm with curious eyes. Her first Pokemon! The girl was looking forward to her new life as a Pokemon Trainer. What would happen now? Where would she go? Would anything exciting happen to her? The girl did not know, but she did know that she would try and be the best Trainer to the Pokemon she acquired.

Honestly the Professor wasn't paying close attention to the girl. He was sort of just staring off into the distance letting his mind wander. It went straight back to the book he had been holding in his hands. There was certainly no doubt about it, that thing would not leave his mind. His thought process hadn't even bothered with pretending it wasn't still focused solely on the book. Regardless there it was in the front of his brain until the girl spoke again. She wanted the Cyndaquil. Elm shrugged and gave a small smile. Ah yes he fire type. It was quite a powerful little thing and would grow into something great. "Well then it's settled. I hope you enjoy your new Pokemon and here is your starting pack." He lifted the bag up and over toward the new trainer and gave a final wave of good-bye. It was always great to see someone start their journey to greatness.
