Max wasn't the kind of person to commonly go out and battle his other Pokemon that he didn't use for battling often. Most of them liked to sit around at the ranch, anyways, and didn't mind the relaxation and comfort they received. They were, of course, up to battling if Max asked, and didn't mind going out every so often to look for some wild Pokemon. The one Pokemon he had that just had to go out and battle and venture around to releive energy, however, was his Pidgeotto, Gidget. If he didn't take her out occasionally, she would get rather mean, and often go out to look for battles herself, weather they be with wild Pokemon, or not.
Knowing she liked to fly a lot, Max had decided to go to the Unova region for a little while; he knew that there were a lot of different Pokemon out there, and he knew that a flight like that would relieve at least some of her energy while they were out. It was a while to get there in the first place, and Max had decided to have her stop outside of Mistralton City; which, ironically, held the flying type gym leader as of currently. Although it was a somewhat long flight, she was still fidgety even as they landed.
"Alright, Gidget," he huffed as he slipped off of the Pokemon's back, holding a rather large Pokeball in his arms, "We're only here to battle wild Pokemon, alright? If you end up attacking a trainer and their Pokemon without me saying we can, you'll go straight back into your Pokeball, okay?" The flying type Pokemon stared at him for a moment, before nodding her head in compliance. "Good, now good see if you can find us an opponet."
Again the bird nodded, and, with a cry, took off into the sky, leaving her trainer behind as she became a lookout for any sort of opponets. Max couldn't help but sigh; he hoped she would behave for at least a little while. He didn't like being mean to his Pokemon or anything, but sometimes, his Pidgeotto was hard to control. And, without any kind of battling, she got worse. Way worse.
"VOL-TORB!" came the robotic sound from his arms, and Max looked down with a rather sad smile.
"Yeah, I know," Max said with a sigh as he began walking along the route. "But you know how she gets when she doesn't have a battle every so often. And no one likes her like that."
The Voltorb seemed to silently agree with it's trainer, taking one last look up at him before huffing and going back to a resting position, hoping to go back home before it got too late. It liked sleep, after all.

Soul walked down the road casually, Rivet the Zangoose and his Charmeleon following close behind. He stuffed his hands in his pockets and closed his eyes. His anger making his blood boil. He hated having to walk everywhere, he should of brought Bouffalant along to ride on. Traveling always made him more irritable than usual, and lately his luck seemed to be dawdling. He'd had all kinds of misfortune on this route; from slipping into the river, to getting caught in a snowstorm. He was cold, hungry, and out for blood. As if sensing this, Charmeleon moved as if walking on eggshells. Fearful of lagging behind or getting to close. Anything could set his trainer off at times like this.
As they came to the outskirts of the city Soul paused, watching a Pidgeotto circle high above. Without noticing his trainer had suddenly stopped Charmeleon hit the back of Soul's leg and fell backwards, freezing as he realized what he had done. Sure enough soul flinched and spun around, his eyes dark as his anger spilled over. "Watch where your going you coward!" He hissed, his hand sliding to the whip he carried on his belt. Charmeleon whimpered and lowered his head, as if wishing he could disappear. This wasn't the first time he messed up today, and he knew it wouldn't be the last. Even Rivet took a weary step back as the whip came down across Charmeleon's body, making the pokemon cry out.
As Soul struck Charmeleon a second time; the small Rufflet perched on his shoulder took flight. Hovering a foot above and still watching the Pidgeotto. She chirped mischievously and without warning started flapping her wings faster, releasing multiple light blue glowing saw-like energy blades from her wings at the Pidgeotto. A strong Air Slash.

To say that Gidgit wasn't happy was an understatement; she saw the attack coming towards her, and was barely able to dodge it, ending up in her nearly falling from the sky from the force of it. She managed to re position herself to fly straight, however was closer to the ground then she was before. She gave a rather agitated growl, and, with a cry, sent a twister towards the small group in response. She obviously didn't care who had sent the air slash towards her; she was too angry at the fact that someone had done so to her.
Meanwhile, Max had noticed that she had started to circle long before the attack was sent back. That had been a fast find, seeing as how, due to the cold, many Pokemon were hard to find these days. Many were hibernating or had traveled to some place warmer instead of staying where it was cold. He understood that, although he had expected at least some Pokemon around. He had been in the middle of such thought when he heard Gidgit, and, looking up, realizing that she had found an opponent of the sorts. Not knowing what kind - and that she wouldn't attack nothing - Max's first thought was to run where she had started attacking to make sure she hadn't starting attacking a trainer or someone wasn't trying to capture her, and, dropping Voltorb to the ground, took off towards where she had sent the attack. Voltorb seemed to care less that it had been dropped, instantly rolling off after it's trainer in order to keep up.
Max had to pause at what he came upon, though. Was that a whip in the trainer's grasp? And were those marks on the Charmeleon's back? He would have usually apologized to any trainer that Gidgit attacked, however, due to the situation, that was the least of his worries.
"H-hey!" he managed to say in a slightly loud voice. "Wh-what're you doing to that Pokemon?" He really didn't need to ask, seeing as how he could pretty much guess what the boy had done, however that was the only thing he could think to say.
At that moment, Gidgit took the opportunity to land in front of her trainer, obviously still enraged about what the trainer's Pokemon had done to her. "PIDGEOTTO!" the Pokemon cried as she flapped her wings rather agressivly, and it was obvious that, if the other boy didn't make some kind of move first, she would.

Soul barely had time to register that Widow had attacked the Pidgeotto he saw earlier before he turned and saw a twister coming at them. Immediately he jumped foreword and grabbed Widow from the air, Covering her with the open flaps of his jacket and turning his back to the Twister as it struck. An action completely at odds with his treatment of Charmeleon only a moment before. He slid slightly in the snow but otherwise remained standing. His eyes gleaming with anger. Widow chirped from inside the jacket and peeked out; seemingly unharmed and still full of mischief, sticking her tongue out at the Pidgeotto.
At the bird pokemon's cry Soul smirked. His gaze shifting from pokemon to trainer. "What am I doing? I'm keeping him in line. Something your Pidgeotto seems to need to work on." His focus narrowed in on the feisty boy's pokemon. "You wanna fight birdie?" Fine by me. At that he took a pokeball from his waist and raised it in from of him. "Mawile, come on out! You get in there too Charmeleon." He gave the Charmeleon a nudge with his foot and he rose to his feet. Moving out to stand beside Mawile, whom almost appeared to be swooning over her trainer. Happy to be chosen at last for a battle, even if it seemed to be an unfair one. A part of her hoped the other trainer would release another pokemon, then she could show Soul her true potential!
"Mawile, Flash cannon. Charmeleon, Heat Wave." At his command the two stood side by side as they had trained. Each parting their jaws and releasing their move at the same time, creating a beam of silver and red heading straight for the Pidgeotto.

It was obvious that this trainer wasn't a good one, especially if he was willing to beat his Pokemon because it wasn't doing something right. That was just wrong.
"You shouldn't beat your Pokemon because they can't do something right in your eyes!" Max retorted. "You should have them do their best, even if it you don't think it's good enough!"
Max greatly hated trainers who did as such, especially when the Pokemon obviously didn't deserve it. He had hoped that he wouldn't run into trainers like this at all, but, apparently, after Team Rocket's fall, it was obvious that there were trainers still out there who held such beliefs. He should have guessed as such, however, he had to admit that he was at least a bit naive in many subjects like that.
The the other trainer let out another Pokemon and ordered them to both attack Gidgit, Max realized that he would have to battle, although at the moment it seemed a bit unfair. Gidgit, on the other hand, seemed quite pleased that the trainer was actually willing to battle; though she glared at the little Pokemon who had attacked her first, she gave a cry as the dual attack came rocketing towards her. She tried to use agility to move out of the way, however only managed to dodge the flash cannon; she flew to the side to avoid it, only to get hit directly by heatwave. She stumbled, however managed to right herself and rocket into the sky. Meanwhile, when the attack came towards Max and he went to try and dodge, Voltorb instantly rolled in front of his trainer, a light screen appearing in front of them. The attack went around them as the electric type's special attack was raised.
Grunting as he looked over the other trainer's Pokemon, Max thought that it was perhaps the best to fight, although he didn't want to hurt the Charmeleon more than it already was. He probably wouldn't have any choice, though, and he knew he would have to apologize to it later, if able.
"Gigdit!" he cried to the Pokemon that circled from above, "Use Twister again! Voltorb, go ahead and use Roll Out on Charmeleon, though don't use too much force."
It was obvious that the Pidgeotto didn't have to be told twice. The bird swooped down and, with a powerful gust from her wings, sent a twister towards the opponents with a cry. Meanwhile, Voltorb, usually the fun one during a battle, seemed to spark a bit in anger, before taking off in a roll out towards the Charmeleon.

Soul watched the battled, once more seeming detached. As if it was no more than a game of chess to him. Widow hopped out of his jacket and took her place on his shoulder, obviously enjoying the battle she had caused. He stroked her feathers and smiled for a brief moment before focusing back on the battle. It was the other trainer's turn to attack and it seemed he had brought in a second pokemon as well. It won't be as easy as you think. He thought, a smirk playing across his lips. "Mawile Quick, Throw Charmeleon into the air and use Poison Fang to stop Voltorb! Charmeleon use Thunderpunch!" Immediately Mawile spun, picking Charmeleon up in her massive jaws and literally throwing him at the Pidgeotto before facing the voltorb. Her jaws parting to expose sharp teeth dripping in poison, ready to catch the voltorb head on. Meanwhile Charmeleon yelped slightly a little surprised at being thrown before using thunderpunch to try and break through the twister, getting tossed backwards by it instead. "Useless." Soul spat watching the pokemon fail, Rivet Snarling in agreement beside him.

Max was starting to dislike this trainer more and more. He obviously didn't care about how his Pokemon were being treated, seeming out of it even as he battled. He only seemed to care about the Rufflet on his shoulder, really, and, although he couldn't disagree with that, he still felt anger bubble up inside of him at how he seemed to care about none of the rest them. He couldn't help but wonder at how someone could end up like this, weather they were raised like it or not. He had been scared of Pokemon for most of his life, and yet he still knew how to treat them.
Gidgit seemed rather happy with herself for being able to hit the Charmeleon rather easily with her twister, and, without waiting for her trainer to command her, swooped down with agility towards the fallen Pokemon, then using ariel ace, obviously trying to use the two moves in some sort of combo to better attack the injured fire type Pokemon. She seemed opposite of her trainer; uncaring as to how hurt the Pokemon already was, but instead wanting to make the opponent faint as quickly as possible.
Meanwhile, Voltorb was unable to stop himself from slipping into the Malwhile's jaws. It tried to reverse, however only slid in the snow and mud before being thrown right into the opponent's jaws. Instantly, it tried to reserve, only to struggle more in the grip as it got damaged by the attack.
Obviously frustrated by both Gidgit already doing her own thing and Voltorb caught in the opponent's grip, Max ordered, "Voltorb, try using Roll Out and Hidden Power to get out!" Hopefully, it would also injure the Malwhile in the process.
Instantly, Voltorb began rotating away from the ground type's grip in a roll out while it's body began glowing and releasing energy in a hidden power, trying to get itself loose of the grip it was in.

Mawile gasped and lost her grip on the voltorb, quickly jumping away before sustaining anymore damage from the hidden power. Soul on the other hand, was watching Charmeleon. Knowing Mawile didn't need his guidance as much. His smirk grew larger as the flying pokemon came in for an ariel ace. He'd been waiting for it to use a close-range attack. "Charmeleon! Jump and use Thunder Punch once more!" Charmeleon reacted and jumped above the Pidgeotto as it swooped, its forepaw glowing yellow as it aimed the attack at it's back. Meanwhile Mawile remained where she was, ready to take action as soon as she was called upon. As always, she nearly jumped for joy when Soul's attention returned to her. "Mawile, use flamethrower! With an exited cry Mawile obeyed, spinning back around so her massive jaws faced the voltorb before releasing a torrent of hot flames at her opponent.
Soul looked to the other trainer and his smirk grew, an almost smug sadistic expression darkening his features. Ruff! Rufflet! Widow cheered from his shoulder, hopping from one foot to another excitedly.
