Nina had been flown to the professors lab by a trainer passing through Sunnyshore city where her and her mom lived. They had offered her a ride on there Skarmory. The ride was quick and before she knew it she was at Sandgem Town right outside the lab. Waving she gave a quick thanks than her and Corsola walked up to the door. The Professor was expecting her so she gave a quick knock than entered. Corsola was sitting on her head as she entered. "Hello Prof. Rowan I'm here to get my starter pack."
Nina wasn't sure if Corsola would be considered as her starter for she was not a caught pokemon. She was still considered a wild pokemon but tamed.
Corsola let out a cry of excitement and looked around the room at all the books and stuff.

The only sound that could be heard for a few moments was the rustle of paper behind a tall bookcase. The rustling continued, and gained ferocity, probably because the person moving the papers was becoming continuously more angry. For what, one wouldn't know unless they saw the Professor.
Finally, a loud groan was heard after the sound of a stack of papers hitting the floor.
"For the sake of Arceus, there's too much paperwork!" Professor Rowan finally stepped out from behind the bookcase, a bunch of papers still in his hand. Behind his feet, corners of the notorious papers stuck out. He ran a hand through his short white hair before speaking again. "What was that? I'm afraid I'm a bit old, and I don't have as good of hearing as I used to." He glanced down and spotted the Corsola, however, and nodded.
"Well, I'm assuming you just want a pack, because you already have a Corsola." Professor Rowan walked back behind the bookcase for a short moment, coming back with the pack as mentioned. He held it out for her, offering a small, slightly annoyed smile, simply due to the fact that he knew it was only a minor distraction from his annoying paperwork. "Have a great time!" There she went, another trainer passing through. Every single one that went through, the Professor questioned whether they would be the next champion of the Sinnoh region, which was exactly what he was doing now.
Nina showed quite a bit of potential. He smiled before turning back behind the bookcase, groaning, and going back to his normal life.

Nina looked around so many papers. The place was a mess. It couldn't be that hard to be a professor could it? He didn't look happy not at all. She watched as he stormed around getting stuff.
Nina froze and frowned, "Um actually Corsola isn't exactly mine she's a wild pokemon. I befriended her but she's free to leave if she wants to. I was kind of hoping to get a real starter pokemon from here. If not maybe Corsola will help me catch something." Her smile disappeared for she had really been hoping to get a real starter pokemon.

Professor Rowan had just sat back down somehow between all his papers when Nina said that she would actually like a Pokemon as well. He frowned, slightly confused, though she couldn't see his face, while she explained the situation. Corsola was a wild Pokemon? He shook his head a little, thinking about the topic at hand. It was unique, that was for sure.
He stood up again, running a hand through his hair. "Well, I suppose that it can be arranged. Do you know which one you want?" The Professor had walked back towards her, deciding it would be best if they could actually talk face-to-face, as opposed to between hundreds of books and work that needed to be done.

Nina could tell he was confused about the situation with Corsola so she decided to tell him her story. "You see five years ago Corsola saved me from drowning. I don't know where she found me I don't remember anything. A doctor told me when I woke up in the hospital. But someone found me Corsola was holding me up so I wouldn't drown in the ocean. They say she saved my life. She refused to leave my side while I was in the hospital they thought she was mine. But she has no poke'ball. Once I left the hospital she would disappear from time to time but she always came back. We became best friends over the years. I don't want to capture her. I want her to be able to come and go as she pleases. So you see I need a pokemon that is truly mine."
She hoped the professor would understand now. When he asked her what she had in mind she nodded. "Yes I was hoping for a shinx. It would be the best type for catching water types. I want to be a water and electric trainer."

The poor thing! Professor Rowan's heart broke at the story Nina told him, and he nodded apologetically. She and the Corsola seemed to be good friends, and he loved seeing trainers with such a tight, trusting bond. Rowan knew she had him wrapped around her finger, but he couldn't deny her what she wanted either way.
"A Shinx? Why, of course, you poor thing." A Shinx wasn't one of the three original starters, but if that's what she wanted, then she would get it.
He looked to the left and grabbed a Pokeball from a drawer, double-checking that it was the correct Pokemon that the girl wanted. He handed it to her, offering a small smile to go with it. "Here you go." He looked to the Corsola with a playful smile. "Now take care of her, ok?" He would wait for them to leave before he turned back to his work this time. The girl and Pokemon had touched his heart, and he would see her out.

Nina didn't want pity she just wanted him to understand why she needed a starter. But pity was something she could not avoid. When ever she told someone her story their first reaction was always pity. Oh well she thought.
"Thank you so much Prof. Rowan. I promise I'll take the greatest of care for her. Me and Shinx will make a great team." Grabbing the ball she called the pokemon out and attached the ball to her pack. "Welcome Shinx me and you will become the strongest trainers in Sinnoh." She bent and picked the Shinx up and hugged it. Than headed for the door. "Thanks again Prof. Rowen. It means the world to me that you allowed me to have a starter." With that she left to begin her journey.
