Spinner the Poliwag ; Star the Starly

I stretched my arms up as I looked around, surprised that I was in a tree. Oh, right. The night before I was looking for hotels, but they were all taken. I silently cursed as my back popped. I pulled out my only two pokeballs with a yawn.

"Come on out guys..." I said it slowly and wearily. I smiled as the pokemon popped out of their pokeballs..in the air!

"Star! Starly Star-star Starly!" The little bird pokemon flapped its wings and chirped, happy to be flying.

"Poli Poliwa---" I froze in horror. I was in a tree, high up in the tree and Poliwags can't fly. Poliwag squealed as it plummeted down. Starly squeaked and sped down at high speed and easily grasped Poliwag in it's talons. I gasped grateful as the cheerful flying type sat the Poliwag next to me. Spinner crawled underneath a part of the jacket I had tied around my waist. I patted it's head softly.

"Let's find ourselves a nice wild pokemon to catch. You need a good battle don't you Spinner?" Poliwag gave a small squeal of approval. Star gave a loud chirp and I laughed hard.

As the girl and her Pokemon sat in a tree, there came a rustling from down below. The tall grass near the tree began to move and shift, and, after a moment, a small Pokemon came out, shuffling on all fours and sniffing at the ground and looking around curiously. It had been drawn out by the noise, and wanted to find out where it had been coming from. It was hard to find food as it was, after all, and a distraction didn't help, not one bit!

A WILD SANDSHREW APPEARED!

The little Sandshrew finally reached the base of the tree and, after sniffing it, looked up into it's branches as it shifted onto it's hind legs. It seemed to take a moment before it finally noticed the three other beings up in the tree: human, a flying type, and a water type! But how'd they get up there? And why? Trees were very high up!

<"Hey!"> he called up to his fellow Pokemon, hoping one would hear him. <"Hey, you guys! How'd ya get all the way up there?"> he asked, tilting his head to one side in question. <"How come you ain't down on the ground like me? Ain't that were humans like yours are supposed to be, anyway?">

Spinner the Poliwag ; Star the Starly

I looked downwards. A Sandshrew was calling up to Poliwag and I. I nodded my head to Mio and flew downwards. I settled down on the lowest branch on the tree. I looked down at the ground type pokemon. My head cocked.

"Star?" <What? Oh, well I am Flying type. I like trees. The human and the Poliwag went with me because we're friends. Although, could you do me a favor? That Poliwag, Spinner, needs training because it's so shy. It needs a pokemon to challenge it. I don't know if you would because you're a groundish-rock type and your weak to water, but I'm sure you could try to beat her. She's pretty small...> I trailed off as I looked up to see Mio climbing down.

"Starly!" <Also, be careful, my trainer loves ground and rock types, she might try to feed you or pet you. I don't fight, so I suggest you battle the Poliwag. It'll be another proud victory for you I'm sure. Plus, you might help the little thing learn something, okay.> I looked at the Sandshrew with pleading eyes as Mio reached the Base of the trunk and started walking over to the two of us.

A battle? Well, he didn't mind battling, and he needed to get a little stronger. Although, if that Poliwag knew any water type moves, he might be in a little bit of trouble. He sure hoped that he didn't, because he really didn't feel like being caught at the moment, or fainting.

<"Alright! I'll battle!"> he said happily to the Starly. He moved back as the girl climbed down from the tree, and began jumping from side to side almost happily. "Shrew Shrew Sandshrew Sand Andshrew!" he said, obviously trying to tell her that he wanted to battle.

Spinner the Poliwag

Poliwag leaped off my shoulder and to the ground to face Sandshrew.

"Battle, eh? Okay, Spinner, I choose you!" Spinner let out a small yowl of confidence. It got into stance. I watched as the battle got ready to start.

"Star...Starly Sta-star." <You'll get what I mean by shy after this battle. Pay no mind to her confidence now. It'll end soon...> I flapped wings and flew to Mio's shoulder with a worried glance at both pokemon.

"Okay, let the battle begin! Spinner, get close to Sandshrew!" I called out to the small pokemon as it got closer to the ground type on wobbly legs. As soon as it was close enough for me, I hollered.

"Stay on target and use bubble over and over!" I yelled with excitement pulse through my veins. I could feel Starly's talons digging into the skin on my shoulder as my little Poliwag started.

When the battle began, the Poliwag instantly shot out a double array of bubble. The Sandshrew was able to dodge the first oncoming attack, however the second one hit him hard; sending him onto the ground and on his back. The Sandshrew groaned, however hoisted himself up, obviouslt not going to give up that easily. This was a battle he agreed to, after all.

First, the little ground type curled up, it turned white for a moment, yellow outlining it. Once it defense was raised, the Sandshrew stood up and launched itself at the Poliwag, it's paw glowing as it aimed to scratch the Poliwag.

"Stand still, wait until you see it's pupils up close!" Spinner did as I said and waited until the claws were a centimeter from it skin.

"Full power bubble, now!" I yelled as loud as could. I watched as the beautiful array of blue went face first into Sandshrew and as Sandshrew's claws pierced Spinner's skin. I could hear a painful cry of a Poliwag. As thing cleared up, I still saw Spinner standing, but she was wincing. I saw the deep claw marks going across the spiraled skin on her stomach. I winced myself, but turned away.

"Finish it with mud shot and bubble going on and on!"

"Poli--wag!!!!!" It gave a loud battle cry and went in pursuit of the Sandshrew. It's mud shot and bubble switching after full cycles.

He thought he was going to get an easy shot, but it seemed that this girl and her Pokemon were instantly going to prove him wrong. Right as he got close to the Poliwag, it burst out a bunch of bubbles at him. Although his attack hit, he was knocked back yet again by an attack from the Poliwag. That one really hurt, and as he fell on his side, he found it rather hard to get up. He had to stagger to his feet, and his body hurt a lot, it seemed. He obviously couldn't take much more.

And, of course, the Poliwag had to shoot a mud shot at him. It hit him square in the forehead, and the Sandshrew stumbled back once more. He wobbled on his feet, going in a dancing like state from side to side, before falling over. It was obvious that he was finished, and that the battle was over.

Spinner the Poliwag



"Pokeball, go!" I had already had a pokeball ready. Starly went out picked up Poliwag in it's talons. Poor Spinner had gotten exhausted and Sandshrew's scratch attack had done a lot of damage considering it was on the thin stomach skin. I gently took the injured Poliwag from Star and held it in my arms. Star, Spinner, and all watched the wiggling pokeball together. I sat down as Starly flew down to the ground and settled itself next to me. I reached into my pack and grabbed a potion. I sprayed the helpful remedy on my poor Poliwag. As soon as I finished, Poliwag popped up, full of energy. It looked at me and then to the pokeball. Poliwag seemed strongernow that it had battled with the stronger Sandshrew. I smiled at Spinner and then adverted my attention back to the pokeball. I couldn't tell if it was still or not. We waited in suspense.
