Yui blinked at the two story building before her. Here she was, finally, about to start her life. There wasn't anything that was going to stop her from walking in and getting her Pokemon. No person in the region could sway her mind. She had wanted to be a coordinator for so long, now was her time. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes for a moment. This would be her first time away from home and away from the restaurant. More importantly, it would be her first time without her brother for nine whole years. She would be eighteen soon and she needed to get started while she was still young.
In fact, she thought to herself, she was probably the oldest person to come to Professor Elm. Most people started out on their own when they were young. She had waited so long... Was it to late for her? Would the Professor even accept her as a soon-to-be trainer and give her a Pokemon? What kind of Pokemon would she want? Her eyes flicked opened as her body began to fill with fear. No, she was still a child, he had to give her a Pokemon. She took her first step forward. When her foot touched the ground her mind continued to race. What were the starting Pokemon that the Professor gave out? She knew that there were three types, grass, fire and water, but what Pokemon were they? It didn't matter what they were. What kind of moves did she want.
The teen stopped in front of the door. Did she want the sparkling effects of water in her performances? Yes water was pretty and it would do well with the right lighting but that wasn't it. Did she want the beauty of flowers and vibrant colors? Yes it was true that a grass type could offer much beauty but that wasn't it either. That left her with fire. The dazzling effects of a bright fire, shining in the darkness. But wouldn't the fire shine less brightly in a brightly lit stadium? Yui shook her head and placed her fingers on her temples. Deciding was so hard. She wouldn't go in without a clear idea of what she wanted. She didn't want to look like a stuttering, babbling fool, so instead, she looked like a fool by standing in front of the door with her hands on her head.
Finally, that was it. A fire could still be dazzling under bright lights if it was bright enough. She would just have to train her fire Pokemon enough to get the fire that bright. The girl straightened up and let her hands drop to her sides. It was time. This was it, she was getting a Pokemon now. Blinking she stepped forward and walked into the building. Her eyes took a second to adjust from the bright sun outside but when the pupils had widened to let in more light she noticed something. The lab was nothing like what she had imagined. It was rather simple actually. She had once thought that the Pokemon lab would have tables with Pokemon laying on them, tubes reaching up into strange machines. In all truth, there wasn't a Pokemon in sight. Yui sucked in the air around her. This was it, no turning around now. "I'd like a Pokemon please," she said looking at who she assumed to be Professor Elm sitting at a desk.

It was a rather quiet day in the lab. There had only been one or two children to come by and claim their Pokemon for their journey. He might have to call upon a breeder sometime soon to see if he could get a couple more of each sometime soon. He only got that many of each at one time, anyway; they were easier to keep a hold of and take care of. That, and usually, since they were so young, they mostly stay in their Pokeballs because they were so hyper and active. Each Pokemon stayed at the lab no less than a week anyway, so he rarely felt bad about letting them stay in there when he wasn't able to watch them. They still ate and got to play, although he usually got one of the small children in Newbark to come by each day to play with them. That usually tired them out rather quickly; both the Pokemon and the children.
"I'd like a Pokemon please."
He was pretty much in the back, where he couldn't be seen, when he heard the voice. He had been looking over some papers on a table, a Natu perched on his head, eyeing the paperwork as well. The little bird piped up when the voice came wafting through, making the young professor jump and catch onto the voice as well.
"Just a moment, please!" he called as he finished reading the paper rather quickly, setting some papers down on the table before shuffling into the front room. He had to slid his glasses back up his nose from looking down for so long. At the front, near the door, a young woman stood, expectantly. "Sorry for making you wait," he apologized. "So you're here to get a Pokemon?" he asked as he shuffled to another table, rummaging around it before grabbing a bag. The Natu watching his hand movements rather carefully. "You know which one you want?" he asked.

A voice reached out to her through the room, telling her to wait. In her waiting, Yui shifted uncomfortably on her feet while she clasped her hands together, letting gravity pull them downward. Her eyes darted across the room but her brain refused to retain anything the eyes told it. Her mind was still too focused on the fact that she was about to hopefully get her first Pokemon. a large lump of nervous energy slid down her throat as she gulped. She had nothing to fear, the Professor wouldn't turn her away because she was seventeen. No, everything would go just as her father said, you come in, he makes you choose, you leave. It was a simple process all she needed to say was that she wanted the fire type when he asked her. There was a deep breath entering her lungs when the man stood and came towards her.
The first thing Professor Elm did was apologize for making her wait. The teen's eyes widened in surprise, she had hardly waited! "Oh..." she barely whispered before the man was off talking again. Her mind wouldn't stay focused on what he was saying, but rather what he had said. Were some of the people that came in rude to him? Did they get mad because he had other work he also had to take care of? Her mouth tried to slide open into a gaping formation but the girl kept it clamped shut. She watched the Professor as he went to a different table and picked up a bag. For the first time since she had seen the man she noticed a small Pokemon perched on his head. Yui couldn't help but smile, she wanted a bond like that. Raising her hands to her chest she bit her lip.
Then it came, the dreaded question. Which Pokemon do you want. Her eyes widened again, this was the moment that would set her life in motion. Was she sure she was ready? Did she really want the fire type? Was she sure that a grass type wouldn't suit her better? She bit her lip again. "I think..." her voice trailed off. She should have read up more on the types of Pokemon of the region. She stared up at the little Pokemon, it was a Natu. She knew that for sure because it was a psychic type, her favorite. She couldn't help but smile at the little green ball. It was so cute and adorable! How could she not want the one type Pokemon she dreamed so often about. Yui gulped again, her eyes still staring at the Natu. "Is it ok if I... I mean I really like psychic Pokemon...." she let her voice trail away again. Was she really going to do this? "Can I please have a Natu like the one sitting on your head?" In one quick second after she had finished talking she raised her hands to her mouth and gasped. It looked like she was going through with it.
"I mean, if not I'll just take a fire-type," she whispered through her hands as a second thought to try and not annoy Professor Elm.

"Is it ok if I... I mean I really like psychic Pokemon.... Can I please have a Natu like the one sitting on your head?"
"Oh, of course!" the Professor said happily. Looking to the Natu on his head, he smiled.
Suddenly, the small bird hopped off, squawking before leaping off of the table and hopping towards the girl quite happily, flapping it's wings in greeting. It seemed rather happy to see her, hopping from side to side. Well, at least it didn't seemed upset or anything that it was being taken away.
Shuffling and grabbing a Pokeball, the Professor said, "I take it that's all you needed? Oh! And here's your starter pack and the little fella's Pokeball, if you want to keep 'im in it."
The Professor rather happily gestured both to the girl.

Yui dropped her hands do her sides when the Professor just said alright. Was that it? They were done? A giant smile crossed her face as the bird hopped down, squawking all the way. It made it's way toward her, flapping it's wings like a child would if they were receiving their birthday present. The teen squatted down and reached her hands out to the bird. Oh what was she going to name him?! The Natu rather happily hopped up her arm and perched on her shoulder, nuzzling it's head into her neck. The smile on her face widened. Professor Elm held out a starter kit and what appeared to be the Natu's Poke-ball. "Thank you!" she piped out as she took the starter kit. Holding the ball in her hand for a while she eventually pocketed it. "I think I want to keep him out for a little while."
The Natu let out a cry as it almost slipped off of his perch when Yui bowed her head. "Thank you very much Professor, have a good day." She turned and walked away. It really was that simple just like her father had said. Now she needed to go start her journey with her new friend. There wasn't anything else to do but to go explore the world! She turned her head to look at the Natu who returned the favor with a long stare. Travel the world with an unnamed bird. "What shall I call you?"
