APPERANCE:
Epsilon, at 27 years old, is very tall, standing at about 6'1. He has an average weight of about 183 pounds. His build is fairly muscular, with broad shoulders, making it impossible to assume he's weak from mere appearance. His skin can be considered a middle tone, however, it is more on the pale side rather than dark. His face is rather oval-shaped, have a thinner width than height. Epsilon's eyes are silver, his eyes also being naturally narrow, hiding a fraction of his pupil. His hair is jet black, his bangs being long and somewhat wild looking. They appear to be parted to the left, successfully covering a good part of the left side of his face. His eye is still visible, however. The farthest his bangs extend to his the bottom of his nose, perhaps upper lip.
Epsilon's normal attire consists of dull, dark, or bland colors. Commonly black, it isn't uncommon to see gray or even white on occasions. His style of clothing is somewhat varied. While he wears clothes that could be considered "punk", such as a black, leather sleeveless trench coat with black pants and black shoes, he doesn't mind wearing formal clothing as well. That includes dress shirts (black) with ties, or a regular shirt with a vest like piece of clothing over it. Epslion also has his left ear double pierced, a black band being in the middle hole, and a spiked shell-like one on the top hole. Lastly, his expressions are usually neutral or blank. However, he can offer a gentle smile, or a furious scowl if there's reason to.
PERSONALITY: Epsilon has a very respectful nature. When meeting someone for the first time, he prefers to act as polite as possible. This goes especially for his battle opponents, as he always wants to acknowledge how far they'd come to battle him, being the champion. If his opponent isn't a proper challenger who has beaten the Elite Four, then he still likes to respect them for what they may become. However, after their first meeting, this may change. If said person were to get on his particular bad side, then he wouldn't think of treating them with respect.
Also, along with respect, Epsilon has very good manners. He speaks in a rather refined way, using no conjunctions. This makes a lot of people, especially new trainers, fin his speech odd sounding. The reason why he does this is because of his mother. She wanted him to grow up into a well mannered gentlemen, and absolutely hated slang words, and apparently, she considered ocnjunctions slang. so, it was drilled into Epslion's head not to use them, so his childhood was spent without saying them, and the habit has stuck with him his entire life to this point. Also, he was taught to act like an especial gentleman towards females. (Another trait his mom wanted him to have ..>)
Things that would get Epsilon to dislike you are generally focused around your attitude. He is extremely intolerant of anything that shows disrespect to anything or anyone. This includes Tem Rocket/Magam/etc. however only to a certain degree. He does no favor using vulgar words to describe the groups, but he isn't above looking at them unfavorably. Also, another pet peeve of his is underestimation. Epsilon strongly believes in the growth and progression of trainer and pokemon. To think someone is below their own capabilities is just unacceptable. If this happens, Epsilon will probably go off on a lecture about it, as he does whenever any of his philosophies are contradicted. Also, if Epsilon meets someone who has the mindset that they are better than anyone, whether it be a pokemon or trainer, he will gladly set them straight. While he is the champion of the Johto region, he doesn't necessarily see himself as better. He thinks of it as more that he has had time to progress with his pokemon, as well as his own skills. And when the time comes, eventually, anyone can be at his level. Which means that even if he can easily beat a trainer, they have the potential to improve, and the distance of skill and experience can only grow with time. So really, it's only a matter of how much you've grown, and whether you've really put your heart into trying to improve or not.
Also, Epsilon hates giving up in general. He himself has resolved to never lose faith in himself, nor his pokemon, or even other people. Giving up, to him, is like not giving something a chance. To think that a person or pokemon can't acheive something is like putting them down, and discouraging them. Epsilon strongly believes in the saying "You don't know if you don't try". You close all possibilities when you simply stop trying, or are unwilling to try.
Epsilon favors trainers who battle with all their heart and soul, giving everything their best and pushing themselves to their limits. He sees it as them truly getting into a battle, and taking it seriously. When a trainer does that, they show how much they value battling, and how they are willing to show everything they're pokemon's got with a confident aura. This also plays along with his view on battling in general, but we'll touch bases on that a little later. Anyways, he will almost always make sure to let said trainer know how valuable he thinks their battling spirit is, in hopes that is motivates them to never lose it and always stick to it.
Something in general that Epsilon likes is twilight. The time of day when it's not so dark that you can't see, but not light enough so you can. It's a sense of equal balance, in his opinion, and enjoys taking a few minutes of his day relaxing and enjoying the time of equal light and darkness. When one thing doesn't overpower another, a concept he is most fond of. However, as much as he enjoys equality, he knows that it can't exist throughout the whole world. But, that fact only makes it all the more valuable.
Epsilon tends to view battling in a very philosophical way. He sees it as a way to show how much a pokemon has grown, as well as the trainer. It also demonstrates the bond between a pokemon and people. He finds a lot of honor and satisfaction sharing the unique skills and traits of him and his partners, so to not give your all into a battle, where your true colors show, is something he truly frowns upon. He loves to battle in general as well, for philosophical reasons and for the thrill of it. The adrenaline rush and the action and anticipation; they're all simply enjoyable and fun.
Lastly, on his name, he prefers to be called simply by his middle name: Hei. It means black in Chinese, and he thinks it fits rather well with his preference of pokemon being dark type and dark colored. also, he's aware his real name, Epsilon, is a bit of a mouthful, and might be hard to pronounce from prior experience. So, he's decided that for everyone's sake, that he should simply be known as Hei.

HISTORY:
Epsilon grew up in Ecruteak city, his father being an environmental researcher, and his mother owning a flower shop. In his early childhood years, his mother was more involved in his life than his father. This was because his father was usually out on reserach trips rather than at home, while his mother was obviously always home. From the minute he learned to speak, his mother would always talk to him about manners and being a gentleman. She wanted to make sure he was a polite, well-mannered young boy, and that he grew up in the same way. This wasn't obsessive, nor overly stressed upon, however, she would usually drop "pointers" every now and again steadily, always reminding him to walk straight and especially to not use conjunctions. These comments were consistent, and while Epsilon coped with them and obeyed his mother, he did have a certain about of dislike for them. For one, she tried to dress him up in suits all the time, but he really didn't want to wear them everyday. This annoyed his mother a bit, but finally, she allowed him freely wear what he wanted. It wasn't all that bad, however, as it was what other people would see as simple normal clothing. His mom often commented on how the outfits looked "trashy", but Epsilon simply ignored her in this perspective.
When he was about seven years old, Epsilon started to take more of an interest in his father. He started to ask all about his father's trips, and what he did for his job. His son's enthusiasm for his line of work helped Epsilon's father and him to bond a bit more, often getting into hours of conversation, the subject, while being about the environment at first, gradually changing to broader, more father-son topics. Still maintaining a bond with his mother, Epsilon was now getting to know his father a bit more as well. So much, that by the time he was ten, he was allowed to accompany his father on a research trip. It was pretty close to Ecruteak city, (using HeartGold/SoulSilver map >.>) Mt. Mortar. Epsilon promised to stay with his father, and since they weren't too far away, Epsilon's mother agreed. When they got there, the black haired boy was enthralled. He made sure to stay close to his father, as the cave/mountain was pretty dark. However, a rock slide occurred, and in the commotion, Epsilon was separated from his father. Before that, an Ampharos had been lighting the way. However, it had stayed with his father, leaving the boy alone in the dark. Scared, he didn't know what to do, and didn't think before he acted. He started screaming for help, and that attracted an Arbok (I know Arbok isn't in Mt. Mortar, but it's in caves sometimes, so please just kind of ignore that?). With the snake being much bigger than the boy, as well as intimidating in the dark, Epsilon was fearing for his life. However, before the pokemon attacked, another pokemon came, and protected him. This pokemon than helped the boy find his way around the cave, eventually reuniting him with his father. With Ampharos's light, it became known that the pokemon was Absol. Being ten years old, the appropriate age to become a trainer, Epsilon had the urge to go out on a journey. He knew of the legends of Absol, how it was the disaster pokemon. But, owing his life to it, he was determined to make sure to prove the rumors wrong.
Getting his parents' permissions, as well as Absol's, Epsilon was able to start his journey within the next two weeks. He traveled through the Johto region, finding himself more and more infatuated with dark type pokemon, as they were unique in the sense that they got power from an element that was often feared by humans: the dark. Sometime along his journey, he started realizing his name was a bit strange, and that people sometimes had a hard time pronouncing it. Seeing as his middle name meant black in Chinese, to go with his type preference, and was easy and short to say, he eventually became accustomed to requesting he be called that. He collected a lot of other dark type pokemon, and went from gym to gym, earning badges and getting satisfactory from showing his pokemon's worth to the world. In his eyes, battles became the main way he could let everyone see just how amazing and wonderful pokemon, not only his, but in general, really were. He didn't like when battles weren't taken seriously, and developed a habit of going into deep philosophies about it.
Eventually making his way to the Elite Four, he managed to defeat them. However, the actual champion was harder. Epsilon was defeated twice, but, he kept trying and trying. He refused to believe his pokemon weren't capable of defeating the champion, and finally, on his third battle, he won. The victory felt good, and Epsilon also felt accomplished seeing all the effort he put into getting to that point. the former champion also recognized this, and praised him on his spirit and perseverance. This is what leads Epsilon to do so to trainers, knowing what kind of effect it might have having experienced it himself.
Now, at present time, our black haired champion likes to travel around, often helping new trainers, and clearing up rumors about pokemon (i.e. Absol).
RP Sample: (It's from another site, I hope it's okay? Sorry, I'm just kind of drained after the personality and history >.>)
Namine never thought she'd actually do this. She was actually going to the costume party at the Joker tonight. A costume party, where there were lots of people, and a lot of socializing, two of her most hated and feared things. However, her friend, Xion, already bought her a costume. The blonde couldn't bring herself to waste the girl's money by not wearing the outfit, so she forced herself to agree to come.
Sitting on her bed, the black witch costume lay hanging from her closet door. Glancing at the digital clock on her bed stand, and looking at the sky, Namine confirmed that it was time to change and head to the Joker. It only took her a few minutes, and, looking into a mirror, she concluded it wasn't that bad. A witch was a common Halloween character, and her costume was rather plain anyways. Just all black, a dress and a pointy hat. that meant she shouldn't stick out too much, right? She could stay in the corner for awhile, with no one approaching her. And when she saw Xion, she could go and talk with her a little, and they could just stand by the wall or something and watch everyone else. that's just how they acted.
Her plan seemed flawless, and reassured by it, Namine exited her dorm. Going through the halls, then walking out into the open air, a cool, crisp breeze blew. Holding onto her hat so it wouldn't get caught in the wind, the first year continued on her way. there were several other students, like her, that were going to the costume party. Cats, vampires, other witches, pirates, you name it and there was someone dressed as that. Following the general crowd while still maintaining a good amount of distance, the roar of the party hit her ears before she could even see the door.
Any other time, Namine would have happily turned around and stayed in her room. But, she had a promise with Xion. The blonde would never think of ditching the raven haired girl at the party. That was just out of the question! If Xion abandoned her at a party, which was highly highly unlikely, Namine was sure she'd be scared, frightened, and sad. So she couldn't even consider leaving, not now.
Finally at the door, she closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and entered.
The noise was deafening. The people ignored the concept of a "personal bubble", and were much too close to her for her liking. Having to push through crowds of people, Namine said a few stuttered out apologies. Not like anyone heard her. She'd have to shout to be heard, and that was something she was not willing to do. After about five deathly long minutes of braving the crowd, the 19 year old almost cried with happiness as an almost deserted corner came into view. Practically sprinting towards it, she placed a hand on the cool surface of the wall. Taking a deep breath, she only then realized how her heart was racing. Her breaths were short and quick, and she was starting to sweat. Leaning her forehead against the wall, she closed her eyes and tried to regain her breath and calm herself.
It wasn't easy. Namine's mind was on complete overdrive. Her body was literally shaking now, and she could only register how much she wanted to leave this place. "No!" she told herself. "I have to be here! Xion's coming, so I can't bail. No, no, I can't bail on her. T-That's not an option. Let's just hope she gets here soon..."
